Architectural Technician

 

Description:

The Architectural Technician (Grade 1) will be involved in the production of drawings and documents relating to the design, tender and construction of new-build, refurbishment and maintenance projects to be carried out by the Council and other Contractors. This work will involve ensuring technical compliance with the Building Regulations and other statutory technical standards including calculations of building performance under a range of environmental headings including BER analysis and the use of specialist programmes such as DEAP. On-site inspections to maintain quality control will form part of the job duties.

Architectural Services are also provided at regional level in each of the 4 Municipal Districts where collaboration with the local communities, planners and other state agencies is key to enhancing the respective localities.

Each candidate must, on the latest date for receipt of completed application forms -

  • Hold a NCEA/HETAC National Certificate Final Examination in Architectural Technology (preferred) or a NCEA/HETAC National Certificate Final Examination in Construction Studies or hold an equivalent professional qualification; and
  • be capable of dealing efficiently with the range of architectural works undertaken by a local authority, and
  • Possess a high standard of technical training and strong experience of working with Auto Cad, Revit together with a working knowledge of BIM
  • Have excellent IT skills and be proficient in the use of Technology
  • Have the ability to carry out topographical surveys
  • Have the ability to carry out as-built surveys of existing buildings and brown field sites
  • Be familiar with the requirements of Fire and Disability certificates
  • Possess a working knowledge of the requirements of the Building Control (Amendment) Regulations (BC(A)R) including the production of inspection plans
  • Have experience in Site Inspections and attending site meetings
  • Be capable of writing clear and concise reports.
  • The skills and ability to establish working relationships with colleagues in the Local Authority, public representatives, state agencies and community groups.
