Assistant Chief Fire Officer

Cork County Council Fire & Building Control Department performs the Councils functions as Fire Authority and Building Control Authority. These functions are managed and delivered through four divisional offices which are located in Bantry, Mallow, Midleton and a headquarter office which is located at County Hall Campus, Cork.

The Assistant Chief Fire Officer works as part of a multi-disciplinary team within a division of the Fire & Building Control Department to deliver key local authority services in fire safety engineering, building control, community fire safety, fire service operations, major emergency management and Civil Defence.The Assistant Chief Fire Officer will operate under the direction of and report to the Senior Fire Officer of the division to which they are assigned. They must undertake those duties as assigned to them by their supervisor.

The role requires a clear knowledge and understanding of local authority services and its key stakeholders and relationships, local government structures and its democratic role and mandate, current local government issues, future trends and strategic direction of the sector, management and implementation of change.

The duties of the Assistant Chief Fire Officer shall include, but are not limited to:
 

• Management of such staff as may be assigned.

• Administration and implementation of the Building Control Acts, Building Regulations, Fire Services Act and other legislation, including Dangerous Substances legislation, with regard to inspections, assessment, validation, certification, licencing, and enforcement under the legislation as appropriate, and give evidence in court where required

• Undertaking of during performance inspections of licensed premises e.g. public houses, nightclubs, restaurants, etc.

• Development and promotion of Community Fire Safety initiatives

• Perform duties in relation to operational fire-fighting, Civil Defence, and emergency management as may be assigned • Developing and updating pre-incident plans

• Managing and operating the safety management system • Implement the performance management development system
