Here at Haleon, we are on the lookout for a highly skilled Automation and Digital Lead to join our dedicated team in Dungarvan.

As an Automation and Digital Lead, you will lead a highly talented and motivated automation team (currently 6 members), providing strategy, prioritisation and direction while ensuring continued automation and digital development throughout the site.

The role is responsible for automation system performance and replacement across the sites (OC and OTC), manufacturing and utility assets working closely with the wider engineering team to reduce losses and ensure efficient operation, leveraging new technologies and digital platforms to drive the business forward.

  • Provide leadership in defining and executing the site automation strategy. Formulation and execution of this strategy is absolutely key to the sites success to delivering medicines to our patients.
  • Define and align with the above site Automation team to ensure local activities are strategically aligned with corporate goals by building relationships and leveraging knowledge exchange between sites.
  • Responsible for definition of the site automation obsolescence and upgrades strategies ensuring consistent standards in hardware and software are applied and obsolescence risks are addressed/mitigated.
  • Define and execute the continuous investment plan to ensure the site remains current and innovative in both automation and digital technologies to leverage business benefit and avoid significant obsolescence in both skills and technology. Provide shop floor support for problem solving and investigation activities for all automation issues.
  • System Ownership for Serialization and Track and Trace systems.
  • Actively pursue business advantage through the application of digital technologies and apps throughout the site manufacturing function.
  • Lead and initiate continuous improvement programs and projects including the development and optimization of operation and maintenance procedures for automation / control systems.
  • Tender and appoint contractors for the supply of automation services, plant and equipment, installation or Service work for Production operations, such that they contain appropriate technical specifications are delivered as required and represent value for money. Ensure that an out of hours automation support system is in place and support vendors are upto speed on site systems.
  • Lead and manage the reliability, maintenance and performance improvement of the automation infrastructure across manufacturing, and utilities working closely with engineering and operations teams to maximise site performance. Through collaboration with the OC and OTC Engineering leads, define the delivery of the skills training program for all engineering staff in digital and automation such that the capability of the site engineering team meets the requirements of the business
  • Stay current on developments in the field of instrumentation, control technology, digital opportunities and Haleon Standards. Be the site champion for Industry 4.0 and build this into the site Automation and Digital Strategies.
  • Provide technical expertise during regulatory audits.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant Global Engineering Standards, Statutory inspection requirements, machinery safety and Guidance on suitability.
  • Ensure that GMP, quality, health & safety processes are adhered to in all aspects of the role.
  • To demonstrate the key capabilities, behaviors and values as set out in the Haleon Leadership Profile for “Leading Others”. Ensure that the site Automation Team are a high performing team.
  • Engineering Degree to Level 8.
  • Experience of successfully delivering capital projects.
  • Experience of leading and managing multi skilled technicians and support engineers in the manufacturing environment, to include performance management, objective setting, coaching/mentoring, development and prioritisation.
  • Experience in developing close links with key site customers (quality, operations, EHS).
  • Experience of providing and presenting data and recommendations to site leadership teams to facilitate and influence timely and effective decision making.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering standards and statutory requirements for plant, machinery and workplaces applicable to a large volume consumer products factory.
  • Capability of designing, specifying, managing and improving control and automation systems including:
    • Instrumentation
    • PLCs – Siemens, Allen Bradley and Mitsubishi
    • Motion Control
    • Data Acquisition
    • Machine safety
    • Automated Control Networks
    • SCADA / HMIs
