This role is remote-first, but candidates must be Ireland-based and open to occasional travel to the Belfast HQ.

As Director of Software Engineering, you'll lead and scale multiple high-performing, full-stack teams (14–20 engineers), with a strong emphasis on technical quality, delivery speed, and engineering growth. You’ll work closely with Product, Architecture, and the C-suite to deliver scalable solutions, drive technical strategy, and continuously improve engineering practices across the board.

We want a leader who is confident in modern architecture, backend engineering, cloud-native technologies, and agile leadership — and who can bring clarity and direction to complex technical decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and grow cross-functional engineering teams delivering modern software products with tangible business impact
• Drive technical excellence across software architecture, system design, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, and engineering operations
• Collaborate with product and executive leadership to align delivery with strategic goals
• Actively participate in architecture reviews, code quality initiatives, and scaling challenges
• Champion agile principles (Lean/Kanban), CI/CD pipelines, and modern tooling to increase velocity and reduce operational friction
• Mentor engineers and engineering managers, with a focus on technical growth, ownership, and accountability
• Identify and address bottlenecks in delivery, quality, or infrastructure using data-driven decisions
• Foster a high-trust, transparent engineering culture where engineers thrive

Candidate Requirements

• 5+ years of engineering leadership, including 1+ years at Director level or above, managing 10+ engineers
• Strong technical foundation in object-oriented programming (Java, C#, or C++) and scalable backend systems
• Track record of delivering production-grade software in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Experience leading full-stack teams using modern frameworks, microservices architecture, and CI/CD practices
• Proven success in agile and Lean environments, with a focus on measurable delivery outcomes
• Strong cross-functional communication skills and ability to influence at both technical and executive levels
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
