Electrical Design Engineer

 

Description:

We are presently recruiting for an Electrical Design Engineer to join our growing engineering consultancy in Tralee, County Kerry. Working on electrical network upgrades across high- and medium-voltage systems. You will be involved in the design and development of HV and MV substations, grid connections, protection systems, cable layouts, and associated electrical infrastructure. This is a permanent, full-time position with the option of hybrid working offered.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop electrical systems for HV/MV substations, grid connections, protection schemes, cable systems, and equipment layouts
  • Produce high-quality electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, schedules, and technical documentation using CAD tools (AutoCAD, Revit, EPlan, etc.)
  • Support construction and commissioning activities, providing technical input, site inspections, and quality assurance
  • Carry out electrical studies including power flow, fault level, and compliance checks to IEC, Irish Standards, ESB and EirGrid requirements
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and statutory bodies to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient project delivery
  • Contribute to design reviews, technical problem-solving, and continuous improvement of calculations, specifications, and templates
  • Maintain accurate engineering records and deliver work to agreed programme and quality standards

 

About You

  • Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • 2+ years’ experience in similar work
  • Experience in HV/MV design, substations, grid interconnection, or site-based electrical works
  • Strong understanding of power systems, electrical design principles, and construction practices
  • Proficient in CAD and technical documentation
