The Coinbase Compliance Quality Assurance (CQA) Team is pivotal in upholding our mission to ensure regulatory compliance and operational excellence within the cryptocurrency industry. As a Financial Crimes Compliance QA Team Lead, you will collaborate closely with the CQA Manager to cultivate a high-performing team dedicated to quality assurance in financial crimes compliance. Your expertise in statistical and risk-based sampling methodologies will be essential in validating our business processes and controls, ensuring they meet compliance obligations and industry best practices.
What you’ll be doing:
- Develop and execute a risk-based Quality Assurance (QA) Program focusing on Customer Due Diligence (CDD), Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD), PEP/sanctions screening, AML alert investigations, and SAR decision-making processes.
- Establish a structured cadence for QA reviews across in-scope functions, utilizing statistical sampling and risk-based sampling techniques to ensure comprehensive coverage.
- Create and apply a scoring methodology for material findings and quality issues, producing metrics-driven QA reports with actionable insights for stakeholders.
- Develop QA checklists, instructions, and workpaper templates to standardize processes and enhance efficiency.
- Lead QA reviews, assess the quality of team outputs, and provide ongoing coaching and training to build a skilled team.
- Foster strong relationships with business partners to drive procedural enhancements and ensure alignment with compliance objectives.
- Stay informed on AML/CFT and sanctions regulations, industry trends, and best practices to continuously improve QA processes.
- Manage projects effectively, ensuring timely execution and delivery of quality outcomes.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned.
What we look for in you:
- Proven experience in executing QA, Audit, or Compliance Testing programs within financial services, particularly in transaction monitoring and cryptocurrency.
- Familiarity with multiple AML systems and programs, including KYC, AML/CFT, and sanctions compliance.
- Strong understanding of AML/CFT and sanctions laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to develop metrics and reporting frameworks, with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Highly motivated, organized, and adaptable, with a strong work ethic and the ability to work independently.
- Intermediate to advanced skills in PowerPoint/Google Slides and Excel/Google Sheets.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field.
Nice to haves:
- Previous exposure to or a keen interest in cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.
- Experience with data extraction and analysis tools (e.g., SQL, Tableau, SAS, Snowflake).
- Familiarity with financial services regulators or experience with Big 4 accounting firms.
- Professional certifications such as CAMS, CFCS, CFE, or CRCM are a plus.
