General Manager

 

Description:

Reporting to the Board, the General Manager will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management of the organisation. This person will need to provide clear leadership in a challenging environment, so that the mission, vision and values of the charity are implemented throughout the group and help implement the strategic plan. They will also need to increase the charity’s impact and reach by ensuring effective marketing, networking, business development and fundraising.

 

They will need to ensure that the charity meets all its regulatory and legal responsibilities and that these are understood and adhered to across the organisation.

 

A strategic thinker, the General Manager must be willing to make difficult decisions, and act decisively and proactively, ensuring at all times that the values and purpose of the charity are implemented and adhered to. They must also be a great ambassador for the charity, upholding the values and ethos of the charity and ensuring that these filter down throughout the organisation.

 

The General Manager must lead, inspire and motivate all staff and volunteers across all sites within the organisation and liaise with the Board at all planned and ad hoc meetings and day-to-day communication.The role involves strategic, operational and administrative responsibilities and therefore flexibility within the role is important.

 

The role is 30+ hours per week. The General Manager’s main time will be shared across both main locations – our Kennels at Killimor and Cattery/shop in Briarhill, Galway. Travel will also be required to our shops in Ballinasloe, Athenry and Loughrea. Other travel as required (events, networking, etc).

 

The salary will be commensurate with experience and in line with the charity sector.

· Have excellent verbal and written communication and listening skills

· Be a strategic thinker

· Must be consistent, reliable and disciplined

· Must be able to operate in a fast-paced environment, which is often emotionally demanding

· Have strong organisational and networking skills

· Be able to provide leadership and guidance

 

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATION:

· A relevant third-level degree

· At least five years’ management experience

· Knowledge of animal welfare standards and legislation would be an advantage

· Experience within the charity sector is preferable

· Own transport essential
