We are proud to be playing a critical role in the net zero transition, as we aim to more than treble the net capacity in operation to 13GW and grow renewable energy output five-fold to over 50TWh over the next 10 years.

Our newly created Power to X (PtX) function will be key to our growth ambitions, as we look to develop and implement a new global business strategy in an exciting and evolving market, providing an additional route to market option for our assets and establish world leading PtX capabilities to make green hydrogen and eFuels an additional technology pillar of SSE’s ambitions.

This is a new and critical role within our newly created PtX function where you'll take overall responsibility for building out the PtX project capabilities, governance processes and delivery systems, leveraging the market leading development resources across the business. You'll drive the establishment of a standardised PtX development process and best practice for PtX project delivery, and alongside your team you'll provide robust front-end project management capability for these FOAK (first of a kind) developments with responsibility for delivering the PtX element of an integrated development or existing operational site, and developing and refining project opportunities in line with SSE's LCP (Large Capital Projects) Framework.

Your key responsibilities will include:-

• Recruiting, developing and managing a global PtX development function to lead all PtX development activities from concept refinement, ensuring a continual focus on achieving targets and commercially focussed delivery of PtX project elements on time, and within budget.

• Building effective relationships with colleagues in Offshore and Onshore development and operations teams to enable the integration of PtX elements into wider development projects and operational sites, as well as the provision of expert advice to business development and origination activities with regards to assessing and evaluating PtX potential in acquisition and bid submissions.

• Working in a matrixed and integrated project team, you'll manage and oversee the PtX portfolio of development assets, with a focus on advancing the portfolio in line with SSE's LCP Framework, company objectives and within allocated resources and agreed risk tolerance. You'll take the lead on the preparation and presentation of regular reporting of activities, progress and potential issues to the SSER ExCo, Group ExCo and Board as appropriate.

• Develop best-in-class PtX project and portfolio management systems and plans based on e.g. understanding and sharing lessons learned from demonstration projects, reviewing current PtX capabilities and identifying any upskilling/training needs, developing best practice management systems for all projects, determining the optimal resource allocation to deliver best pipeline outcomes, working closely with internal development functions and ensuring all existing and new regulatory requirements are understood and adhered to.

• Support Procurement & Commercial teams and Head of Commercial in the development and implementation of a supply chain strategy that supports each project's success, whilst also seeking opportunities for economies of scale and optimisation where possible.
