Description:

The Offshore and Hydrogen Asset Development team is tasked with identifying, developing and managing new investment opportunities on behalf of ESB Group. This team will play an integral part in ESB’s net zero ambition by 2040 and will contribute significantly to ESB’s renewable energy target of 5GW by 2030, while also developing long term storage and Hydrogen projects. The Offshore and Hydrogen Asset Development team within Generation and Trading has successfully developed, or is in the process of developing a number of projects in the UK and Ireland, and is actively seeking to acquire or develop further projects. The teams activities comprise identifying and developing opportunities to enhance and expand the generation portfolio to achieve the ESB growth targets.

The successful candidates will be responsible for managing the delivery and development of hydrogen and energy storage projects for ESB. The Hydrogen Project Engineer will work closely with team members across the various business units in ESB.

This is a critical role within the overall Wind and Hydrogen Asset Development team as the successful candidates will oversee the development of large and complex projects ensuring that these are progressed in line with delivery strategy for ESB.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the Project Manager in the delivery of hydrogen and long term energy storage projects from early development phase or acquisitions;
  • Support the Project Manager with the Development and Management of the business case for projects and acquisitions;
  • Support the Commercial and Finance teams to ensure the projects are being optimised from inception/acquisition right through to financial close;
  • Champion Safety across the projects by updating and implementing the programme safety management strategy and managing implementation of this strategy across all projects;
  • Support the Project Manager in the development and implementation of the procurement and contract strategy. Co-ordinate the various contracts required for each project;
  • Manage stakeholder relationships, both internally and externally supporting the acquisition of necessary permits, authorisations, planning and connection agreements for projects;
  • Ensuring that all project risks are continually assessed, reported and managed in line with ESB’s governance systems;
  • Be fully informed of industry issues which may impact on the choice of plant and ensure that this information feeds into the decision making process.
