SSE Thermal is looking to a recruit a Process Safety Manager/ SHE Manager. This is a Senior management position within the SSE Thermal SHE Leadership team (LT) with responsibility for providing technical challenge, expertise and support across the SSE Thermal Business in relation to process safety, whilst also providing professional SHE expertise across the wider Safety, health and environmental discipline. Reporting directly to the Head of SHE, Process Safety Manager/ SHE Manager will apply specialist expertise across the entire life cycles of SSE Thermal activities, both in existing technologies but also in relation to new and emerging technologies such as CCS and Hydrogen. This will include;

  • Support SSE Thermal in their endeavours to keep people, assets and the environment safe from harm.
  • Development and delivery of the SSE Thermal SHE Plan, whilst establishing and managing appropriate operational standards and policies to ensure Process Safety risks are appropriately controlled.
  • Guide, lead and develop the provision and capability of all Process Safety support across the SSE Thermal to actively support operational and business objectives.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with the SSE Thermal LT and with key stakeholders including Regulatory Authorities, Industry Bodies, Contractor Management Teams and Site Operational Teams and our Technical Engineering and Asset Management team.
  • Provide advice and guidance on all Process Safety matters and its potential impact on SHE and asset integrity and will be required to apply this expertise in new and emerging areas.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • Experience of working at a senior level in high hazard industries and major accident hazard sites (e.g. Gas storage, petrochemical, oil and gas).
  • Detailed knowledge of COMAH regulations and their applications.
  • Deep knowledge in how to apply a wide range of hazard analysis and risk assessment techniques (e.g. HAZID, HAZOP, PHR, LOPA, FTA, EIA, FMEA etc) and the development of ALARP studies to influence decision making and change.
  • Ability to perform, and manage a team, within an environment of high of significant and rapid technology change (CCS and Hydrogen).
  • Effective communicator, with the ability to communicate at all levels within and outside of the organisation.
