Purpose of Role

Reporting to the WSN Head of Group, based within the Micro Nano Systems Centre, the Programme Manager will be responsible for the coordination of Human Centric Systems research projects within the Group, with a core focus on the DTIF funded program of work ongoing in the SAFTEYBOT program.

The successful candidate will oversee the full SAFTEYBOT program of activity in embedded systems that spans across all partners (MNC and SME), ensuring that best-in-class project management processes are implemented, that key deliverables, milestones and KPIs are achieved within the specified timelines and on budget, and that reports are prepared as specified by the funding body. The individual will also play a key role in managing the partners, in particular industry partners, and support their expansion as the project develops.

Success will require the candidate to build close working relationships and coordinate Cluster based research activities with relevant research teams across Tyndall, partner institutes, and industry partners. They will also contribute to the continued development of a “high engagement/high performance” working environment amongst all staff by promoting Tyndall’s key values of Leadership, Excellence, Teamwork, People, Entrepreneurship and Optimism.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the SAFTEYBOT Principal Investigator, Wireless Sensor Network Head of Group and senior Tyndall staff members to deliver the following:
    • Project and budget management of large multi-partner multi-year research projects.
    • Establishment of detailed project plans and targets/deliverables/milestones
    • Ensure adequate resourcing and resource allocation for Human Centric systems projects
    • Preparation and management of project budgets
    • Continuous monitoring of progress against plans
    • Arrangement of regular project review meetings
    • Communication on progress to stakeholders via reports and meetings
    • Partner engagement, including existing and new partner companies
    • Support the development of work plans and contract agreements with partner companies in collaboration with Tyndall’s Business Development Group.
    • Coordinate and manage key project events such as conferences , industry workshops and information days
  • Help the SAFTEYBOT Principle Investigator Identify parallel project opportunities for Human Centric smart systems, explore funding sources and work with the Group Head to prepare / submit proposals.
  • Assist Head of Cluster to develop research strategy associated with multi-disciplinary research
  • Coordinate technology transfer of IP generated so that it delivers the best economic outcome for Ireland through:
    • Working with the SAFTEYBOT industry partners, UCC Technology Transfer Office (TTO) and stakeholders to identify and protect IP that emerges from the projects
    • Working with the TTO to exploit licensing opportunities where appropriate
    • Tracking direct economic benefits as a result of IP transfer to partner companies
  • Ensure compliance with Tyndall’s Quality Management and Health & Safety standards.
  • Additional duties as may be reasonably required within the scope and level of the post.
