Renewables Performance Engineer

 

Description:

A leading renewable energy company is seeking a Renewables Performance Engineer with a strong solar focus, extensive SCADA experience, and analytical/software expertise to join their growing Renewables Asset Management team. The successful candidate will help manage and improve the performance of the company’s renewable fleet. This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge solar projects, alongside wind, battery storage, and green hydrogen assets across Ireland. The role is hybrid, based in Dublin.

 

Duties:

  • Monitor and optimise performance of the solar asset portfolio, including SCADA and automation systems.
  • Manage deployment of automated reports on availability, generation, and efficiency.
  • Support integration of OT/IT systems across enterprise platforms.
  • Act as SCADA/PLC/RTU subject matter expert within the O&M team, supporting upgrades and improvements.
  • Support onboarding of new solar sites and associated systems, including substation SCADA and automation.
  • Develop disaster recovery and business continuity plans related to solar assets.
  • Ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards (NIS2, IEC62443, NIST) and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with contractors, internal teams, and third-party service providers to ensure automation projects adhere to governance and ISO standards.
  • Stay current with trends and new technologies in solar and renewable energy.
  • Undertake ad hoc projects related to O&M, performance, and optimisation.

 

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience with SCADA, OT, and automation systems in a renewable energy environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of solar assets, including performance analysis and optimisation.
  • Proven experience with analytical/software tools to manage and improve renewable fleet performance.
  • Experience with other renewable platforms (wind, battery, hydrogen) is beneficial but secondary to solar expertise.
  • Hands-on experience with: Modbus TCP/IP, OPC UA, PLC/RTU programming, Maximo, Aveva PI.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity standards (NIS2, IEC62443, NIST) and industrial control systems lifecycle management.
  • Degree-qualified in Engineering, Electrical, Automation, Mechatronic, or related field (desirable).
  • Strong reporting and documentation skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment.
  • Eligible to work in Ireland with full driving licence.
