The post is fixed to the Bacteriology section and the successful individual must have experience of working in an ISO15189 accredited laboratory and demonstrate Continuous Professional Development that maintains and develops specialist skills and knowledge to contribute to the continuous improvement of a Bacteriology service. A Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences and Chartered Scientist (CSci) status is desirable. The post holder will have or will be given the opportunity to obtain a qualification in management and leadership. This specific role involves being the technical lead within the Bacteriology section, having lead responsibilities for QMS within the Bacteriology section assisting the Quality Lead in Microbiology. The individual is required to keep up to date with current and professional training requirements for the laboratory and laboratory staff, to ensure all staff are involved in training, Health & Safety and quality in both competency and practice and to encourage all staff to maintain competency regarding the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) Standards of Proficiency. The post holder will be required to represent their section at Microbiology Senior meetings. The post is based at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness. Once trained the successful candidate will be required to participate in weekend working and on call. Currently there is no requirement to work evenings or throughout the night, however, needs of the service may require this going forward.
