Job Description:
Core Responsibilities
- Analyse a wide range of data including financial statements, business models, credit scores, external and internal processing data, bank statements, peer comparisons, etc. to assess credit worthiness and develop a view of merchant financial health and any risk to PayPal’s operations
- Work with senior leadership to build a risk management strategy and framework to minimize the financial losses of PayPal for a diverse range of industries, including High Risk and/or Early Life Cycle Start-Ups
- Estimate financial exposure to PayPal and assess the need for and extent of risk mitigation measures
- Assess PayPal acceptable use cases, regulatory and credit card compliance, and legal considerations with respect to a seller or industry
- Develop a holistic view on individual sellers and across industries, proposing appropriate recommendations to mitigate PayPal’s risk and manage seller experience
- Communicate professionally and effectively with cross-functional stakeholders on risk insights and recommendations
- Maintain accurate and thorough documentation and audit trails of underwriting assessments, reports, methodologies, etc. in a timely manner
- Evaluate and share feedback on data, tools, process and assessment methodologies for continuous improvement, aiding to develop and test solutions where suitable
- Remain current on merchant industry trends that impact the Seller Risk Commercial
Merchant segment
- Review department work and provide signoff for decisions within authority level
- Address executive level escalations in complex situations and high exposure cases
as necessary
- Facilitate or participate in special assignments or projects as necessary
Required Skills
- Strong analytical skillset - must be able to analyse complex data, draw meaningful conclusions and make holistic business recommendations
- Ability to approach problems in a quantitative and qualitative manner
- Be highly curious and thoughtful - a proactive self-starter with a sense of urgency and bias for action in a fast-paced environment
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to build rapport with members of other departments
- Strong working knowledge of external systems, PC based internet and software applications (Internet, Microsoft Office - Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Ability to manage internal projects independently
Experience
- 10+ years’ of relevant experience in commercial underwriting
- High Risk Industries and/or Early Life-Cycle Startups
- Multinational, cross border corporations
- Financial statement analysis, modelling, forecasting and valuation
- Preparing financial reviews, interpreting financial performance and assessing credit exposure
- Merchant risk review and investigation
- Beneficial to have experience in merchant processing industry, particularly focused on risk and operational processes
