SSE Thermal is looking to a recruit a SHE Support Manager. Reporting to the Head of SHE – Thermal, the Thermal SHE Support Manager is a senior leadership role within the SSE Thermal SHE team and they will support to ensure consistency across the business unit in the design, implementation, communication and coordination of all Safety, Health and Environmental matters

  • Develop and provide technical and organisational support to the Head of SHE Thermal on all SHE decisions, which have critical importance to overall directorate objectives, operations, and profitability.
  • Responsible for ensuring consistency in terms of; Processes; Legal Interpretation, application of SHE management systems in each business unit within the Directorate.
  • Collaborate with the Thermal business on all aspects of occupational and process safety, health and environment, and along with direct line reports, provide support, advice, guidance and governance on compliance on applicable standards.
  • Stand in for the Head of SHE at all levels as and when required and contribute to the design and delivery of SSE's overall SHE strategy.
  • Ensuring safe outcomes for our SSE workforce, contractors and the environment and all necessary SHE support, and guidance is provided to enable the Thermal Directorate to manage it's risks.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • Extensive knowledge and experience of working Health, Safety and Environment position in a high hazard industry, i.e. Construction, Offshore, Petrochemical or Pharmaceutical industry or similar.
  • Detailed knowledge of qualitative and quantitative risk assessment techniques including demonstrable experience of the application of ALARP risk assessment in relation to SHE.
  • Graduate qualification or equivalent in SHE (e.g. NEBOSH Diploma) or related discipline with continuing professional development or appropriate proven knowledge and experience.
  • Ability to perform, and manage a team, within an environment of high and significant rapid technology change (CCS and Hydrogen).
  • Effective communicator, with the ability to communicate at all levels within and outside of the organisation.
