Description:

Limerick City and County Council invites applications from suitably qualified persons, who wish to be considered for inclusion on a panel from which temporary vacancies for Social Care Worker may be filled throughout the lifetime of the panel.

The Social Care Worker will be expected to carry out the following non-exhaustive list of duties:

  • The provision of Social care and welfare services to housing applicants & housing tenants with particular emphasis on key target groups including, but not limited to, members of the Traveller Community, homeless, disabled and elderly. The role is to support clients of Housing in attaining and sustaining tenancies with strong emphasis on inter-agency working to support the Housing client;
  • Operate and manage a case referral system, examples of cases include, but are not limited to homeless, medical and Traveller specific cases. The management of cases includes interagency working, social care work assessments and interventions.
  • Engage with persons referred for Social Care intervention/support and arrange for engagement with (external) agencies as determined;
  • Undertake needs assessments for Traveller housing applicants and Traveller housing tenants seeking accommodation supports;
  • Provide support to clients in accessing appropriate accommodation including private rented accommodation;
  • In line with Social Care Worker standards, maintain appropriate records and generate reports on clients and other projects as required;
  • Provide support and assistance to the Estate Management team where the Estate management / Anti-social behaviour issues are determined to require Social Care Worker intervention and to work with the client / tenant to address the issues arising including referral to external agencies;
  • Liaise with agencies (including but not limited to the HSE, Tusla, Probation service, Irish Prison Services, An Garda Siochána, etc.) to support the needs of housing clients, and attend inter-agency meetings and case conferences as required;.
  • Undertake the duties of the Designation Liaison Person as per Limerick City and County Councils Child Protection Policy and 2015 Children First Act. Ensure best practice in terms of child safeguarding within Council activities;
  • Collate the Traveller needs assessment and assist in the preparation and review of the statutory Traveller Accommodation Plan;
  • Review policies and assist in their implementation for marginalised and vulnerable housing clients.
  • Promote and champion the role of the Social Care Worker in the effective delivery of housing services and co-ordinate the agencies engaged in service supports.
  • Assist in the implementation of new and existing initiatives on all housing related matters;
  • To undertake additional training and C.P.D. as required;
  • To deputise for other employees of the Council and represent the organisation when required;
  • The duties shall also include such duties as may be assigned to them in relation to the area of any other department of Limerick City and County Council or other local authority;
  • To undertake any other duties as assigned by the Chief Executive.
