Reporting to the Head of Strategy and Analysis, you will be responsible for leading on strategy development for the Thermal Business unit including low carbon technologies like CCS and Hydrogen

The key duties & responsibilities will be:

  • Own the strategy development activities/projects and have clear ownership over deliverables; including the bi-annual strategy review and ongoing ad-hoc strategic studies. Work closely with Business Development to ensure that processes are in place to integrate strategy with BD activities
  • Co-ordinate strategy reporting and specialist input, working closely with relevant areas including Thermal business units, SSE's Group Strategy, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability functions.
  • Partner with Group and Business colleagues to support the appointment of external advisors and the defining of the optimal strategy and structure for the business to achieve its goals.
  • Undertaking competitor analysis to understand positioning (current vs future), identifying potential low carbon thermal business development opportunities in UK and beyond that could add value for SSE Thermal.
  • Putting in place and managing processes to track development pipeline and working with the Thermal Directors to manage strategic actions relevant to each business area.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • Experience in strategy teams in industry and/or as a strategy consultant.
  • Detailed understanding of wider energy/competitive landscape including policy, commercial, environmental and technical drivers.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to assess opportunities and business performance.
  • Detailed understanding of strategy development frameworks and execution.
  • Excellent communicator and influencer at all levels. Ability to distil complex ideas and concepts into compelling narrative with clear and engaging visual and oral presentation.
