Structural Project Engineer

 

Description:

As a Project Engineer you will take ownership and responsibility for several projects in a relatively small company (30–40 employees divided between the U.K and Dublin offices), but you will always have the close support of the senior staff. Although the position will mainly be office-based, it will also involve site visits throughout Ireland, and if your career develops, it may eventually need some foreign travel, mainly to the UK.

 

In the offices in U.K and Dublin, the successful candidate will mentor junior engineers and collaborate with senior engineers and technicians on structural design projects of all sizes in the logistics, residential, retail, and commercial sectors.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Creating and overseeing structural engineering designs in steel, concrete, and timber, such as floor slabs, foundations, retaining walls, steel portal frames, mezzanine structures, composite structures, connection design, and multi-story buildings.
  • Utilizing 3D structural modelling software for structural analysis and design, along with training junior staff members on its use.
  • Drafting specs and reports.
  • Conducting site visits and surveys.
  • Creating manual sketches and utilizing software to convey design principles.
  • Preparing drawings and other project deliverables in close collaboration with internal engineers and technicians.
  • Overseeing the process of project deliverables.
  • Checking and reviewing engineering designs and deliverables.
  • Communicating, working together, and organizing with clients and members of the internal and external project teams.
  • Attending client and design team meetings both in person and virtually.

 

 

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Join this dynamic and energetic team of technicians and engineers in their Dun Laoghaire office.
  • Structural Engineering degree / MSc degree would be a distinct advantage.
  • 5 to 8 years of experience in a design consultancy.
  • Ideally Chartered Engineer status with the IEI, ICE, or IStructE are requirements for candidates.
  • The ideal applicant will have great communication and interpersonal skills in the English language.
  • Expertise working to Eurocodes and British Standards, and experience with 3D modelling software (Tekla Structural Designer, Robot, ETABS, etc.).
  • The chosen applicant must have a strong desire to advance in their career to lead to advance into senior management.
