Description:
As a Surety Underwriter, you will be responsible for underwriting new and renewal surety business, developing broker and client relationships, and evaluating financial and non-financial risks to assess surety bond viability. The ideal candidate will have experience in underwriting, credit analysis, or related fields, and an understanding of the Irish construction or financial sectors is preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and underwrite new and existing surety bond applications.
- Perform thorough financial and risk analysis of companies and individuals seeking bonds.
- Evaluate contractual obligations, industry sectors, and legal structures.
- Make underwriting decisions within delegated authority and prepare submissions for higher-level approvals when necessary.
- Maintain and grow relationships with brokers, agents, and clients.
- Negotiate terms and conditions that balance client needs with sound risk management.
- Monitor portfolio performance and proactively manage exposure.
- Contribute to product development, internal process improvements, and strategic initiatives.
Requirements
- Experience in surety, or credit underwriting, or commercial financial risk analysis.
- Strong analytical and financial evaluation skills, including the ability to interpret financial statements.
- An understanding of legal documents/contracts, insurance principles, and the Irish regulatory environment preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a close-knit team.
- Prior experience in the surety market (Ireland or wider European markets) highly desirable.
