James Madison University is accepting applications for a Systems Administrator to work as part of a team that implements and maintains general-use and departmental-use Windows and Macintosh computing labs and technology-enabled classrooms for academic instruction and computer-based learning and testing. The position will also participate in development, maintenance, and support of the department’s proprietary computer lab management software.

  • Install, develop, maintain and support software images, applications and other solutions in public computing facilities and classrooms.
  • Install and maintain server and network resources.
  • Design, develop, implement and maintain software systems suitable for the management and operation of public computing facilities and classrooms.
  • Conduct research and development of new technologies, services, processes and procedures.
  • Contribute to the IT Computing Support Team and make suggestions for service improvements
  • Experience with deployment, management, and troubleshooting of Microsoft Windows operating systems and application software in a complex, secure, large-scale Active Directory environment.
  • Experience with deployment, management, and troubleshooting of Apple computers and application software.
  • Experience with using and/or managing the Unix or Linux operating system.
  • Experience with scripting for systems administration using shell-level scripting languages such as the Windows Command Processor, Powershell, and/or a Unix Shell.
  • Experience with application development using one or more languages and frameworks such as PHP, Python, Java, Ruby, Ruby-on-Rails, Django, HTML, CSS, Javascript.
  • Experience with Apple’s Device Enrollment Program and/or managing Apple computers using Jamf management solutions.
  • Familiarity with MacOS application development.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with software application design and coding of any kind.
  • Experience with the Ruby-on-Rails or Django application development frameworks.
