Introduction: The Brothers of Charity Services Ireland, Limerick Region, aims to empower people with intellectual disabilities / autism to live the lives they choose. Our focus is on forming a partnership with each individual and their family, enabling them to design their own service so that they can enjoy a real life in a real place with a healthy balance of supports. We wish to create opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities to have social roles in their communities and to have the chance to form real friendships.

The Brothers of Charity Services Ireland, operate community based residential and support services in the Limerick Region. Accommodation is provided for many people who attend various day activity centres operated by Brothers of Charity Ireland, Limerick Region or other services.

The Community Residential Team Leader will assist the Area Manager in leading the Community Team in the development and administration of community services.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The primary responsibility of all staff is to empower individuals who use our services to live the lives they choose.


The Team Leader shall:

  • Fulfil the statutory obligations of a Person in Charge in line with HIQA regulations
  • Ensure confidentiality is maintained in all relevant practices
  • Ensure that all residential services under his/her care shall be HIQA compliant
  • Ensure that My Profile My Plan, Kardex, Ledgers and any other agreed recording mechanisms are accurate, detailed and up to date.
  • Ensure that Person Centred Plans are in place with accurate, detailed and up to date information for each resident.
  • Supervise all staff in the assigned Community Houses and report directly to the Area Manager.
  • Provide supervision, support and assistance to Social Care staff.
  • Ensure that rosters and timetables of regular staff cover are in place to provide adequate supervision in all community houses.
  • Advise the Area Manager when emergency backup arrangements are required.
  • Be proactive in dealing with issues pertaining to staff in relation to their conditions of employment.
  • Have a clear understanding of the employee handbook and the content therein.
  • Assist the Area Manager in the preparation and monitoring of budgets and rosters and ensure that all reports, time sheets and financial statements are accurate, completed and returned on time.
  • Co-ordinate community living programmes for service users and visit Community Houses regularly.
  • Take part in the induction and training of new staff.
  • Co-ordinate the placement and supervision of students and other volunteers.
  • Ensure that security and confidentiality of documentation is in place and adhered to at all times.
  • Ensure that all staff take their annual leave entitlements in a planned and coordinated way within the current financial year.
  • Arrange and attend staff meetings, house meetings, lifestyle planning meetings and case conferences as required.
  • Ensure that decisions from the above meetings are implemented.
  • Ensure that Social Care staff are familiar with and adhere to the Policy and Procedure documents of the organisation.
  • Ensure that all staff work according to the Code of Practice.
  • Be aware of the organisation’s safety, health and welfare at work statements and ensure that policies and procedures associated with same are adhered to at all times.
  • Ensure accident/incident forms are completed following an accident or incident. Accident forms and form of notice must be returned to the Human Resources Department as soon as possible after the event.
  • Be available as required for emergent situations that may arise from time to time. This may be outside normal contractual hours. A mobile phone will be provided to ensure that emergencies are responded to immediately.
  • Play an active role in developing supportive relationships with neighbours and other people who live or work in the area.
  • Liaise with family members.
  • Be flexible and perform such other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Director of Services or his/her delegates.

  • To support each person to live such a lifestyle within the community as is realistically attainable with his or her resources. This includes development of his/her personal talents.
  • Ensure that all duties and responsibilities are in line with the primary responsibility – to empower individuals who use our services.
  • You are required to establish and maintain relationships with the individuals who use our services that are based on respect and equality and that promote their independence.
