St. Joseph's Foundation is a voluntary organisation providing comprehensive services for people with intellectual disabilities. Founded in 1968 the Foundation has grown through continuously responding to the needs of people with intellectual disabilities and their families.

The Foundation provides services to adults, through day services, residential, and home support in the North Cork and South West Limerick region, and is lead agency for two Children's Disability Network Teams (CDNT), one based in Mallow, and one based in Fermoy.

or equivalent therapy assistant qualification in a relevant healthcare discipline or Health Care Assistant, or Special Needs Assistant (SNA).

Experience Working With Children With Disabilities Is Essential Experience and/or knowledge of Augmentative and Alternative communication (AAC) systems is desirable

Excellent oral, verbal and written English communication skills

Purpose of the Post: To work as a member of the interdisciplinary team under the supervision of a Speech & Language Therapist, providing assistance with the provision of speech and language therapy services to children attending Early Intervention and School Age services on a Children's Disability Network Team.

Location: Fermoy Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Follow established standard operating procedures, policies, protocols, and guidelines, including those related to Quality and Safety management systems.
  • Carry out duties related to the planning, organisation and maintenance of Speech and Language Therapy programmes as directed by the Speech and Language Therapist.
  • Follow therapeutic plans as determined and delegated by a Speech and Language Therapist
  • Collaborate with children, family, carers and other team members and education staff in intervention planning and in the provision of support and advice, under the direction of the supervising Speech and Language Therapist.
  • Carry out generic programmes and groups for service users to the specifications agreed with the Speech and Language Therapist Supervisor and treating Speech and Language Therapists.
  • Prepare resources for assessment / intervention for clinic appointments, home/school visits and group interventions.

Work directly with service users under the direction of a Speech and Language Therapist

Support individual and group activities as required across SLT and wider team
 

  • Carry out the administrative and clerical duties required to support the Speech and Language Therapy staff and wider team as assigned e.g. the scheduling of appointments
  • Attend and actively participate in meetings, reviews, and committees as necessary
  • Engage in the Performance Appraisal and Supervision processes.
  • Maintain awareness of the confidential nature of the work, particularly regarding the rights of service users to privacy
  • Clearly communicate any observations or concerns that may impact service users or the safe operation of the service.
  • Remain adaptable and provide support across service areas when requested by the Children's Disability Network Manager (CDNM)/SLT Manager/CEO
