Description:
The Red Hat Ansible Engineering team is seeking a collaborative and proactive Senior Software Engineer to join our globally distributed organization. In this role, you will contribute to the core of the Ansible Automation Platform, specifically the automation controller and awx open source project: a complex Django-based application serving as the platform’s central execution engine.

You will lead features and epics while helping to unblock teammates through pairing on critical items.
This is a hybrid role based out of our Brno or Waterford offices or in Ireland.
What you will do?
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of software components, REST API endpoints, and features for the Ansible Automation Platform.
- Proactively utilize and experiment with AI-assisted tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, and Gemini to accelerate development, enhance code quality, and support intelligent test design.
- Explore and implement new ways of automating day-to-day operations, such as using MCP to bridge AI tools with internal systems, authoring new skills for common processes, and leveraging agents and agent teams to increase productivity and effectiveness.
- Actively participate in a team-first environment, mentoring other engineers and engaging in positive, constructive code reviews.
- Contribute to an end-to-end (E2E) test suite and manage container builds to ensure quality and security. Quality is a shared mission for the entire team, not just the responsibility of a subset of engineers.
- Regularly engage in the team’s Agile processes, including planning, demos, and retrospectives, with continuous process improvement in mind. Proactively provide updates in the issue tracking tool, Jira, to maintain visibility on task progress and blockers.
What you will bring?
- 5+ years of relevant experience in Software Engineering, with a track record of delivering reliable enterprise-grade software.
- Proficiency in Python and experience with Django and Django Rest Framework (DRF).
- Strong experience working with Linux and a deep comfort with the command line; you are comfortable with a hands-on approach to authoring, running and debugging code.
- Extensive experience with container management and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes, OpenShift, and Docker/Podman.
- Advanced knowledge of version control (Git) and CI/CD systems such as Jenkins, Tekton, or GitHub Actions.
- Experience with Python testing frameworks like pytest for unit and integration testing.
