Description:
We are seeking a skilled engineer to provide expert technical support for Podman Desktop across RHEL, Windows, and Mac operating systems. This role combines core containerization knowledge with OS-specific expertise to resolve complex issues for our enterprise users.
What you will do
- Provide Cross-Platform Support: Deliver expert technical support for Podman Desktop on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Windows, and Mac environments.
- Advanced Diagnostics: Utilize the Podman CLI (command line interface) for advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting.
- Network Troubleshooting: Resolve complex container network issues, including port management, bridge networking, and VPN/firewall connectivity challenges.
- OpenShift Integration: Manage Podman Desktop’s interaction with OpenShift, including generating YAML and managing local clusters.
- Issue Resolution: Methodically reproduce, isolate, and debug complex issues spanning the application, engine, and host OS.
- Remote Assistance: Use remote access tools to debug and support users directly.
- Documentation: Create clear documentation for complex steps and contribute to knowledge base articles.
What you will bring
- Core Container Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of container concepts (images, registries, volumes) and the difference between containers and VMs.
- Podman Expertise: Proficiency with Podman CLI, Podman Desktop UI, and the podman machine concept for hosting Linux VMs on Windows and Mac.
- Diagnostic Capabilities: Ability to interpret system logs across all platforms, including Windows Event Viewer, macOS Console, and Linux journalctl.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written ability to explain technical issues to users with diverse backgrounds.
- Preferred Technical Stack: Experience with CSS, web design, Javascript, Typescript, or Electron Desktop applications.
- One or more of the following
- RHEL/Linux Skills: Strong command-line skills (Bash/Shell), knowledge of rootless container operations (systemd), and RHEL firewall/SELinux configurations.
- Windows Proficiency: Deep knowledge of WSL 2 (Windows Subsystem for Linux), PowerShell, and Windows environment variables.
- Mac Experience: Familiarity with macOS terminal tools and virtualization implementation on ARM-based Macs (QEMU or Lima).
