Software Engineering Internship

 

Description:

Red Hat’s Intern Program is a collaborative effort between the Emerging Talent team and our intern managers. The program is designed to offer a meaningful and well-rounded experience — combining professional development, networking opportunities, social engagement, and impactful work. This is a paid full-time internship based at the Waterford office (Monday to Thursday on-site, Friday remote) with flexible working hours. The expected start date is January 2026.

What You Will Do
 

  • Learn key skills including researching, problem reduction, RHEL, OpenShift, networking, agile, CI/CD, Testing, ScrumBan, upstream and downstream products/projects, Jira, Developer Hub, go operators, python/pytorch/Llamastack, vLLM to complete work as/when required (supported by the team).
  • Make coding contributions in a technical environment.
  • Work closely with other team members (in person and remote).
  • Assist with the planning, fulfilment and delivery of communicated goals including dissemination through public speaking.
  • Contribute to open-source (upstream) projects.
  • Contribute to grant funded projects where needed (e.g. Horizon EU, Feasibility Study with IBM Research)
  • Develop operational Proof of Concept (PoC) demo implementations.
  • Learn to work with containerisation and container-orchestration technologies, such as Kubernetes/OpenShift
  • Learn to set up and apply Automation, DevOps CI/CD tool kits such as Ansible, Jenkins or GitHub Actions.
  • Work with and adapt to a modern AI technology stack, including (but not limited to) vLLM/inference, llm-d/distributed inference, Agentic AI, AI Agents, LLMs, LLM workflows, MCP, A2A, PyTorch
  • Work with Edge Stack (e.g. MLOps at the Edge, Edge Inference Server).
  • Build multi product demos and AI/ML workflows
     

What You Will Bring
 

  • You must be enrolled in an accredited university program in the Republic of Ireland during the full duration of the internship and must be able to join us full time from January till August 2026
  • Working knowledge of written and spoken Englis
  • Interest in learning new technologies; problem-solving skill
  • Experience with development in Golang, Java, Python, or JavaScript
  • Keen interest in open source and contributing to and building communities
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies, frameworks and techniques
  • Experience of Generative AI productivity enhancement tools.The following are considered a plus
  • Ideally (but not necessarily) you would have some knowledge of containers, GitHub and AI concepts.
