Description:
At Medtronic Patient Care Systems (PCS), we power the digital heartbeat behind life-saving cardiac therapies. We build the connected ecosystem that enables clinicians to monitor, manage, and protect millions of patients living with implantable cardiac devices around the world.
From secure device connectivity and real-time data platforms to intelligent clinical tools and patient-facing experiences, PCS transforms complex cardiac data into clarity — helping physicians make faster decisions, improving outcomes, and giving patients greater confidence in their care.
Every line of code we write supports someone’s parent, spouse, child, or friend. Our work ensures that life-saving therapies are not only delivered safely and reliably, but continuously improved through innovation, insight, and global scale.
If you want to build technology that truly matters — where uptime means peace of mind and innovation means more birthdays — join us. Together, we are shaping the future of connected cardiac care and changing lives every single day

A Day in The Life Of:
You will build a native application that lives at the intersection of hardware, health data, and the human experience. The app communicates directly with an implanted cardiac device over a proprietary BLE protocol, ingests raw physiological data from that device, runs AI-powered analytics on-device, and keeps every byte of sensitive health data encrypted at rest and in transit. This is not a typical app — it has to work when connectivity is degraded, when the user is asleep, and when the stakes are genuinely high. Typical activities include:
Lead the design and development of advanced mobile features for iOS and Android
Make technical decisions that shape mobile architecture, scalability, and performance
Review code and mentor junior engineers to raise engineering quality
Partner with product, design, backend, Verification Engineering, and leadership to align on solutions
Troubleshoot complex issues and guide root-cause analysis
Improve engineering processes, testing practices, and release reliability
Drive delivery of impactful features that support business and user outcomes
Help shape technical direction for the mobile platform
What makes this role interesting:
The device you are talking to is inside a person. That constraint makes every engineering decision — from reconnection backoff logic to storage encryption strategy — carry a weight that you don't find on most teams. You will ship code that actually matters to real people, and you will do it while working across two mature native platforms with a shared purpose.
What you will work on:
BLE & device session management: discovery, pairing, reconnection logic, and the BluSync command-response pipeline that talks to the implant
Encrypted local storage: SQLCipher-backed persistence for raw sensor data, certificates, and derived metrics; key material guarded by Keychain (iOS) or Keystore (Android)
On-device analytics: a CoreML (iOS) / TFLite (Android) inference runtime for health metrics such as sleep quality, HRV, and activity; bridging model outputs into a user-facing experience
Native UI: SwiftUI (iOS) and Jetpack Compose (Android) across a shared design system; building health-grade UI components that surface complex physiological data accessibly
Security posture: jailbreak / root detection, silent push challenge-response, OIDC token lifecycle management, and audit event emission
Platform integrations: HealthKit / Health Connect export, iCloud / Google Backup adapters, StoreKit 2 / Play Billing entitlement flows
Connectivity health monitoring: instrumentation of BLE session quality metrics, reconnection rates, sync success/failure rates, and end-to-end device-app communication health; surfaces degraded connectivity signals before they affect the member experience, with particular importance given the cardiac-implant context
Firmware team interface: coordinating directly with the firmware engineering team to define and validate the BluSync command-response protocol, manage firmware-app compatibility across paired releases, and reproduce defects that span the device-mobile boundary
AI algorithm team interface: partnering with the AI/algorithm research team to integrate updated inference models (CoreML / TFLite) into the on-device runtime, validating model input/output contracts, and translating research prototypes into production inference pipelines
Release pipeline ownership: owning the mobile release chain end to end: build configuration, code signing, Firebase distribution for QA validation, and App Store / Play Store submission; shipment is part of the feature lifecycle, not a handoff
AI-assisted development: actively using AI tools to accelerate implementation, code review, and debugging; holding AI-generated contributions to the same quality and safety bar as hand-authored code
