Business Development Associate

Description:

We are looking for an ambitious, commercially minded individual to join our team as a Business Development Associate.

You do not need pharmaceutical industry experience. We will teach you the industry, our business and everything you need to know about the pharmaceutical CMO/CDMO market.

What we are looking for is harder to teach.

We want someone with a strong business mind, an excellent academic track record, genuine ambition and an entrepreneurial attitude — someone who wants to learn quickly, work hard and build a serious career in business development.

This could be an excellent opportunity for an outstanding recent graduate or someone in the early stages of their career who wants more exposure and responsibility than they might get on a traditional graduate programme.

You will learn how international pharmaceutical business is developed from the ground up — from identifying prospective customers and understanding their businesses, to spotting commercial opportunities, building relationships and helping convert those opportunities into new business.

As you develop, you will have the opportunity to travel throughout Europe and the United States, attend major international pharmaceutical conferences and meet customers alongside senior colleagues.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Research companies and identify potential new customers and commercial opportunities.
  • Develop strong understanding of prospective customers, their products and their business needs.
  • Support international business development activity through research, email, LinkedIn and industry databases.
  • Ensure customer information and commercial documentation are accurately maintained.
  • Help build and manage our pipeline of prospective customers.
  • Work with senior Business Development colleagues on live commercial opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Technical, Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing and PM teams.
  • Conduct research on pharmaceutical companies, products, therapeutic areas and outsourcing trends.
  • Monitor competitor activity, identify emerging opportunities within the CMO/CDMO market.
  • Help prepare for customer meetings, proposals and commercial discussions.
  • Attend selected customer meetings, conferences and exhibitions Europe and the US.
  • Develop a detailed understanding of the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry and the CMO/CDMO market.

About you

  • Academically strong, with an excellent track record at university.
  • Minimum Level 8 degree in Business, Science or related discipline.
  • Ambitious mindset.
  • Commercially minded and genuinely interested in business.
  • Evidence of initiative — whether through work experience, an internship, a university project, entrepreneurship, a society, or a business idea you have developed.
  • Curious — someone who asks good questions and learns quickly.
  • Entrepreneurial in the way you think and approach problems.
  • A hard worker who is prepared to take ownership and go beyond the minimum expected.
  • Based in Waterford or able to commute/relocate to Waterford.
