Financial Risk Actuary

We are searching for a Financial Risk Actuary to join a market-leading domestic general insurance firm. The Financial Risk Actuary will form a part of the company’s Risk Function and support the firm’s Risk Management Framework. This Financial Risk Actuary is a unique position that is open to candidates from qualitative and quantitative risk backgrounds.

About the Financial Risk Actuary role

As a member of the company’s Risk Function, the successful candidate will have a wide range of responsibilities, with the overarching goal being to influence the company’s risk culture and business decisions.

Duties for this role include (but are not limited to):

• Reviewing and supporting the company’s financial position to ensure the risk appetite is not exceeded
• Challenging decisions made in the business and ensuring a positive culture for risk management
• ORSA duties along with reviewing risks, both emerging and current
• Supporting management at various levels through risk consultation, thereby assuring that risks are assessed, understood, and managed

Actuarial skills required

The position role would suit a nearly/newly qualified actuary or an individual with suitable financial and insurance risk experience. Candidates may come from different backgrounds and will ideally have experience in the following:

• Knowledge of the various risks in insurance – ALM, claims reserving, pricing, capital management, etc.
• Mental flexibility and the capacity to apply their skills across varying situations
• Experience in financial services and being subjected to regulations
• Great communication skills with the ability to question
• Capable of working well both in a team and autonomously
